Why Sliding Glass Doors Are a Top Target in South Florida

Almost every home in Palm Beach County has at least one sliding glass door onto a patio, lanai, or pool deck, and burglars know it. The factory latch on a slider is often a thin hook that can be jiggled loose, and a slider that is not pinned can sometimes be lifted straight off its track. Because these doors face the back yard, an intruder can work on them out of sight of the street. Upgrading the lock on your sliders is one of the highest-impact security improvements you can make.

We replace weak factory latches with sturdy sliding-door locks, add secondary locks and pins that defeat both prying and lifting, and make sure the door still glides smoothly when you want it open. The goal is a door that is easy for you and very hard for anyone else.

Sliding Door Locks, Latches, and Mortise Hardware

Sliding doors use their own family of hardware. A mortise lock seats into the edge of the moving panel and throws into the frame, giving a far more solid hold than the original hook latch. Where the door allows it, we fit keyed sliding-door locks so the panel can be locked from both sides. For aluminum-frame doors common in coastal construction, we match hardware to the frame so it mounts cleanly and resists corrosion.

If your slider sticks, rattles, or no longer lines up with its latch, the problem is often worn rollers or a door that has dropped on its track. We adjust and repair the door so the new lock seats properly rather than fighting a misaligned panel.

Anti-Lift Pins, Foot Bolts, and Auxiliary Locks

A second lock high or low on the door stops the two attacks sliders are most prone to. A foot bolt or pin lock drops a steel pin through the door and track, which blocks the panel from sliding even if the main latch is defeated. Anti-lift devices fill the gap at the top of the track so the door cannot be hoisted off its rollers. Together they turn a vulnerable slider into a serious barrier.

We position these auxiliary locks so they are easy for you to operate every night but invisible to a casual intruder, and we make sure they never interfere with a safe, quick exit from inside.

French and Patio Door Hardware

Swinging patio doors and French doors bring their own weak points, especially the inactive panel and the tall, flexible gap between two doors. We install proper deadbolts, multipoint locks that secure the door at the top, center, and bottom, and flush bolts that lock the inactive leaf firmly to the frame. Reinforced strike plates and longer screws keep the whole assembly from being kicked in.

For doors that lead to a pool deck or lanai, we choose hardware that handles constant humidity and sun without seizing, and we make sure the locks are simple enough that the family actually uses them.

Storm, Screen, and Sliding Screen Door Locks

Storm and screen doors add a useful extra layer, but only if they lock. We repair and replace storm door latches and deadbolts, fit locks to sliding screen doors so the slider can be cracked for air without leaving an open invitation, and make sure handles and closers work the way they should. After a heavy storm season, hardware on these outer doors often takes a beating, and a quick repair restores both function and security.

We come to your home, look at every patio, slider, and outer door, and recommend a layered set of locks that fits how you live rather than a one-size product.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you make my sliding glass door more secure?

Yes. We replace weak factory latches with solid locks and add pins and bolts that stop both prying and lifting.

Can a slider really be lifted off its track?

An un-pinned slider sometimes can. We fit anti-lift devices that fill the top gap so the panel cannot be hoisted out.

Do you fix sliders that stick or will not latch?

Yes. Sticking is usually worn rollers or a dropped door, and we adjust the door so the new lock seats cleanly.

Can you add a lock I can use from both sides?

Where the door allows it, we install keyed sliding-door locks that operate from inside and out.

Do you secure French and double patio doors?

Yes. We fit deadbolts, multipoint locks, and flush bolts that lock both the active and inactive panels.

What about my storm or screen door?

We repair and replace storm door deadbolts and sliding screen door locks so the outer layer actually secures.

Will the hardware hold up to coastal weather?

We choose hardware suited to humidity and salt air so it keeps working on patio and pool-deck doors.

Do you come to my home for this?

Yes. We are fully mobile and handle sliding and patio door locks on site across Palm Beach County.
