In locksmith terms
An all-keys-lost job is exactly what it sounds like: there is no working key to copy or program from, so the vehicle has to be convinced to trust a brand-new key from scratch. That means gaining entry, then generating a mechanical key to fit the lock, and finally teaching the immobilizer to accept a new transponder or smart key with no existing key present.
Depending on the system, this is done through the diagnostic port, by reading a module's memory directly, or by other supported methods. The right path depends on your year, make, model, and the security the manufacturer built in.
In plain English
If you have lost every key, do not panic. A mobile locksmith can usually get you into the car and make a new key without a dealership tow. It just takes more steps than copying a spare, because we are starting from nothing.
We come to you, open the car without damage, cut a key to fit, and program it so the car will start.
What to have ready
Having a few things on hand makes the visit faster and smoother. Gather your year, make, model, and trim, the VIN if you can find it on the dash or door jamb, proof of ownership such as registration or title, and whether your car uses a turn key or push-to-start. A photo of an old key or fob, if you have one, also helps us bring the right parts.
When a locksmith can help, and when it is dealer-level
For most vehicles on the road, a mobile locksmith can handle all-keys-lost at your location. Some newer and luxury models route all-keys-lost through the dealer by design, and in those cases an honest locksmith will tell you up front rather than have you pay for something that cannot be finished curbside.
Before we head out, we confirm what your specific vehicle needs so there are no surprises. If it is something we can do, we bring the right equipment and finish in one visit whenever possible.
How to avoid it next time
The cheapest key is the one you make before you need it. Once you are back on the road, having a spare cut and programmed is far less expensive and stressful than another all-keys-lost call. Keep the spare somewhere safe and off your main keyring.
